Former London Youth Games competitor Rachel Yankey celebrated her 100th international cap with a goal as England defeated Turkey 3-0 in Thursday’s World Cup qualifying match at Walsall.

The Arsenal player was awarded the captain’s armband for the night as she became only the seventh player ever to reach the century landmark for an England senior football team, following in the footsteps of Gillian Coulthard, Billy Wright, Bobby Charlton, Bobby Moore, Peter Shilton and David Beckham.

A perfect evening was completed as she also collected the player of the match award. Yankey opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, Ellen White doubled the hosts’ lead in the 62nd minute, before Jess Clarke headed home a Yankey corner in the 76th to complete a comfortable victory.

England are now certain of their place in September’s play-offs, where they will be hoping to clinch their place at next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany.
