Youth Panel

The Balfour Beatty London Youth Games is always looking for ways to give a stronger voice to young people.  One of the ways it is achieving this objective is by forming the Youth Panel, officiating launched at Sport England in December 2009.

Members have a varying degree of experience and knowledge of sports development, sports coaching, sports officiating, event management, volunteering and marketing.  Each and everyone is aged between 18 and 25 years of age and have a passion for sport.

The Youth Panel's role
  • To offer advice and input into the organisation and delivery of the London Youth Games
It champions the views of young people, putting their views at the core of some of the key decision-making processes within the Games.

What have they been up to!?

  • Providing advice for the design of the London Youth Games poster and accreditation.  The poster was distributed to hundreds of schools right across the city and for thousands of young people it is where they first discover the Games - it's crucial it makes the right first impression and strokes people's enthusiasm
  • The successful introduction of Foxy, the official mascot
  • Attending the Balfour Beatty Sport Development Grants Awards with 95.8FM's Help a London Child in Whitehall representing the London Youth Games
  • Role in the organisation of the 2010 GamesForce Celebration Event

Russell Findlay, Chief Executive of the London Youth Games said:

"The Youth Panel is always sharing great ideas that are having immediate and visible effects on the London Youth Games.  The Games is all about inspiring young people to take part in competitive sport.  It therefore makes perfect sense that young people have a say in how we go about making this happen.  The Youth Panel has been a refreshing innovation this year and I look forward to working closely with them as they help to improve the Games even more in future years."
