History of the London Youth Games
London Youth Games - producing champions for over 30 Years
The Games have a rich history of providing high quality sporting competitions for young Londoners. They have developed significantly since their inception in 1977 and now include a Regatta as well as competitions for primary schools and disabled athletes.
As well as inspiring more than half a million Londoners to get involved in competitive sport, the Games have contributed to the development and discovery of many international athletes. At the last summer Olympics three of GB’s gold medallists - Mark Hunter,
Christine Ohuorugu and Bradley Wiggins - were former LYG competitors. With London 2012 approaching fast, there has never been a greater need to provide opportunities for tomorrow's sporting stars.
Other famous Games alumni include basketballer Luol Deng, cyclist Bradley Wiggins, footballers Rio Ferdinand and Ledley King, squash player Alison Waters and tennis player Anne Keothavong.
