SAIL 1 The London Youth Games Sailing competition will run in accordance with the operating practices of the host venue, LYG rules, World Sailing racing rules and the sailing instructions which will be issued before the event.
SAIL 1.1 It will be at the sole discretion of the Competition Director as to the application of these rules, and any subsequent decision made as a result will be final.
SAIL 2 Age Category
SAIL 2.1 The following age groups and respective maximum and minimum date of births will apply to the London Youth Games Sailing Competition:

SAIL 2.2 RYA stage 3 sailing ability.
SAIL 2.3 Competitors are not permitted to enter this competition if they are ineligible. No exceptions will be made.
SAIL 2.4 It is the responsibility of competitors/parents/team managers/local authority staff to ensure all competitors details are entered correctly at the time of submission, and that they are eligible to compete for their borough under the London Youth Games Games Rules, and in accordance with the age groups outlined for the competition.
SAIL 2.4.1 In the instance a competitor is found to be ineligible, they will be disqualified from the competition entirely, and the borough will receive a points penalty as per the Games Rules.
SAIL 3 Squad Size Boroughs are permitted to enter a minimum of 1 competitor and a maximum of 12 competitors including any nominated reserves.
SAIL 4 Kit & Equipment Hartley 10’s, Toppers and Fusions will be provided by Fairlop Waters. Buoyancy aids will also be available for competitors. Competitors can bring their own Topper if desired. There are no ILCA’s available at Fairlop waters, competitors must bring their own ILCA boat if they wish to compete in this class.
SAIL 4.1 The boats that will be used are as follows: Hartley 10’s, Fusion, Topper and ILCA.
SAIL 5 Competition Format There will be 6 event categories across 3/4 classes with all sailors in the event sailing at the same time with a minimum of 3 races per event.
SAIL 5.1 The competition events include:
- Hartley 10 boys
- Hartley 10 girls
- Fusion/ILCA boys
- Fusion/ILCA girls
- Topper boys
- Topper girls
SAIL 6 Overall Scoring Sailors will complete a minimum of 3 races per event.
SAIL 6.1 Each event is scored separately with a winner for each e.g., Fusion boys, H10 girls. The individual events score contributes to the team score.
SAIL 6.2 For example, if a sailor finished 3rd in the first race, 2nd in the second race, 4th in the third race, individual score for the event would be 9. The lowest total points will be awarded 1st place position for that event.
SAIL 6.3 Incomplete competition if the competition is cancelled or suspended, the following steps will be used to calculate a final result:
- Results from all completed events are combined and used to identify the overall winner.
- The event types are Hartley 10 boys, Hartley 10 girls, Fusion/ILCA boys, Fusion/ILCA girls, Topper boys and Topper girls.
- To determine a completed event a minimum of 1 lap must take place.
- Tied teams will not be separated once the scores from events are combined, except in the event that the top 3 teams have the same number points then the highest number of first place event finishers will be the deciding factor, then the second-place event and so on.
- If a borough has entered the competition but not in all the events, they will be placed in last position.
SAIL 7 Medals & Trophies Medals and trophies will be awarded as follows:
SAIL 7.1 Overall Borough medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed teams.
SAIL 7.2 Individual event medals are awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed sailors.
SAIL 7.2 The winning borough will receive a trophy.
