Croydon crowned London Youth Games squash champions after exciting finals day
Croydon have been crowned London Youth Games 2026 squash champions, winning gold at the exciting London Youth Games Squash Final, held at Harrow Leisure Centre on Saturday 7 March.
The gold medal was highly contested, with Croydon progressing to be one of the eight teams that emerged from the 20 teams who competed in the January qualifiers at Sobell Leisure Centre.
Croydon impressed throughout finals day with strong performances across the team, working together to secure the overall title in a closely contested competition
Croydon claimed gold, with Sutton taking silver and Camden securing bronze.
The event saw participants competing in great spirits in mixed gender borough teams, working together as they aimed to progress through the competition and claim the title of London Youth Games squash champions!
The finals were attended by Mark Jefferys, Chair of England Squash, who addressed participants and presented medals during the ceremony. Support from the National Governing Body is crucial to the sustainability and growth of the sport in the Games.
Nearly half of those taking part reflected the diversity of the capital, with 45% of participants coming from ethnically diverse backgrounds.
Croydon Team Manager, Pete said “It was a privilege for the Croydon Team to play in the London Youth Games Squash this year and to Win the Gold Medal was a brilliant team effort by all the young people. The LYG is a fantastic competition/event for young people to participate in many sports and long may it continue to give young people these opportunities in sport.”
Croydon squash participant Harriet said “It feels great to be competing here today as everyone has worked very hard to be here.”
A Team Manager from the event added “My players have been massively looking forward to representing their borough in London Youth Games Squash, it is a whole team effort. I’m passionate about helping all young squash players to enjoy the sport and improve along the way.”

Through events like this, the London Youth Games Foundation supports more than 10,000 young people across London each year, delivering opportunities across 37 sports in all 33 boroughs.
