Ilias's Story

My name is Ilias and I am from Camden.

I’m currently wheelchair bound, and it is quite a struggle, at least, from a day to day life to go around and maneuver in a wheelchair.

I originally was introduced to wheelchair racing by a coach in my borough who used to work at my primary school.
He helped me through the first couple of years of my career and started from there.

My first wheelchair racing was at the London Youth Games, which holds quite a sentimental place in my heart, because it was quite a surreal experience to race in here all the time and to come back here every year and racing it again and see how it’s improving.

It’s always a great feeling when I across the finish line because I always know that I’m doing the best that I can. It’s always a great experience to see how that’s paying off and to see how I’m improving and getting better.

Wheelchair racing is always a good de-stressor for me, especially during exam season or any time that I’m feeling stressed from anything.

I always love to go back to wheelchair racing because then that helps me back into how I’m normally feeling and get back to being happy.
I’d always tell everyone at least to try and discover a sport that they like, because it’s always a great deep stress and a nice place to be in a sporting community.
