Jesse's Story

Jesse’s Borough: Enfield

I always wanted to play squash. My dad played it when he was young, so I wanted to play it and I played it once with my cousin when we went to a club. But then I really wanted to do it when I was doing the Duke of Edinburgh Award and I had to do a skill and for my skill, I thought I could take some lessons for squash. And it all came from there.

I’ve always been quite a sporty person. And after a couple lessons in Squash, I started to really enjoy it and get better at it. My coach Brendan saw I was getting a lot better quickly, and he asked me to trial for Enfield, and I got in.

We started with the qualifiers, which was pretty fun. It was a long day of matches and
I played pretty well. And then we came to the finals, which I’ve been pretty excited about.

When you play squash, it’s quite cool, because you get your own moment and you use different skills.

Playing squash in the London Youth Games makes me feel quite proud of myself, because I’ve only been playing for two months, and to get from nothing to then two months later being in the London Youth Games representing my borough is quite a special thing. Now I will remember it for my whole life.”
