Lou's Story

Before I volunteered for the first time, I was worried I wouldn’t have the right skills and I felt anxious that I wouldn’t fit in because of my social communication issues.”

I didn’t feel confident enough to pull off volunteering at a LYG event – but I did!

I have found friendships and companionship and feel less socially isolated, more motivated and feel useful.

My mental health is so much better than it was when I started. I’m less anxious and less depressed.

I’ve learnt new skills and fully embraced the meet and greet role, which I absolutely love.

It’s also opened my eyes up to other volunteering opportunities which I can’t wait to try.

The satisfaction I get from helping out the kids is stuff that’s good for my soul.
