Nana's Story

The programme helped me realise that I do belong in this space, and that my lived experiences and passion for inclusion are my strengths as a coach.

When I joined the Inclusive Coaches Programme, I was excited but also quite nervous. I didn’t know anyone and lacked confidence in myself, especially when it came to coaching in new environments or with new groups. I had experience working with young people with disabilities, through my Sports Coaching Apprenticeship with Future Youth Zone. However, I sometimes doubted whether I was doing things the “right” way or fully meeting everyone’s needs.

The Inclusive Coaches Programme helped me overcome these barriers by giving me the right tools, training, and support to build my skills and confidence. The workshops, mentoring, and shared learning sessions allowed me to understand more about inclusive coaching approaches, adapt my sessions more effectively, and learn from other coaches who shared similar challenges.

The programme also opened the door for me to explore further coaching qualifications and consider pathways I hadn’t thought about before.  Being part of a community of coaches with shared values has really inspired me and made me feel supported in my journey. I’m grateful for the chance to be part of such a forward-thinking programme that is truly making a difference in the lives of young people.
