London Youth Games Inclusive Basketball returned this year with both girls and boys tournaments on 8th May 2025, welcoming participants with hearing, visual and learning impairments.

For many teams, it was the first time they had taken part in a basketball competition and represented their school. Inclusion was at the heart of the day, with the SCORE Centre as host of the event.

Three quarters of disabled people would like to be more active, according to the Activity Alliance’s Annual Disability Survey. That’s why inclusive events like this are so important to give more young people the chance to both train towards and take part in an event, tailored to their abilities.

Throughout the day, matches gave players the chance to compete against different schools and boroughs, encouraging new connections.

Team managers noticed how participants grew in self-confidence throughout the day. Burk, Haringey Team Manager, said: “We’re so delighted with the event. It does so much for the kids and the schools in Haringey.”

For some participants, the event was their first chance to proudly represent their borough. One Lewisham participant added: It was my first time playing in a competition today and I loved it.”

Congratulations to the following teams:

Boys Competition:

Gold: Haringey

Silver: Enfield

Bronze: Wandsworth

Girls Competition:

Gold: Haringey

Silver: Lewisham

Bronze: Haringey 2’s

Thank you to Josephine from Jump for Health and her team of officials who managed the matches brilliantly, enabling all players, regardless of prior basketball experience, to enjoy the competition. We are grateful to the BTO’s, Team Managers and parents for their support in making the day memorable for the players.
