Shani's Story

Shani's Story

Being a girl in a male dominated sport, Shani has had to overcome gender stereotypes. But that’s never stopped her from achieving!

Shani started riding when she was 8 years old. Having begun her journey at London Youth Games, she has gone on to compete and win in national and international tournaments.

She dreams of becoming a professional BMX rider and has created a pathway for herself to follow in the footsteps of Peckham teammate and LYG alumnus Kye Whyte.

BMX has helped build Shani’s confidence and self belief. It has taught her to be stronger in herself. It has also given her the opportunity to make new friends and become part of a wider community.

Shani looks forward to the London Youth Games each year and is proud to pull on the Southwark t-shirt to represent her borough. She races with and against her clubmates and is able to gain valuable experience for future competitions.
