On Sunday, 29th of June, London Youth Games hosted over 780 participants from 23 boroughs at Redbridge Sports Centre for Open Games. Participants came together for a friendly yet competitive day that included Squash and Badminton competitions and Netball and Tennis qualifiers.

This event was a part of the Open Games, where each sport helps participants build confidence, give them a sense of community, and feel included. There was much more to the event than just sports. It established a place where young people could improve their mental and physical health.

Tamsin Greenway, Director of Netball at London Mavericks and England Roses Pathway Assistant Coach, was there watching her daughter play for Hounslow and supporting other young players. “This is how my love of netball started, playing at tournaments, playing at clubs and school. It’s so lovely to see so many different teams – there are so many different incredible players and the mix across the board has been outstanding today. It’s been really good to see.”

Iris from Islington, who participated in the netball tournament, found the Open Games to be very beneficial to her. “The London Youth Games has given me loads of confidence. Before I lacked confidence and training for this event and the event itself has helped me to meet loads of people.”
